I Heart Faces Beach Fun Photo Challenge

The weekly photo challenge over at I heart faces is Beach fun. I just happen to have some great pictures (I think) from the beaches at Shediak, New Brunswick. This is probably one of my favorites.

Step in a little closer.

As a newish Photographer I have to constantly remind myself to step in and get a little closer to my subjects. It really pays off when you fill the whole (or most) of the frame.

See this is a lovely picture of flowers in my garden. Nothing spectacular and certainly not something I would blow up and put on my wall.

Garden shot.

Zoomed in a little more. Getting better, but not quite there yet.

Purple Glads

Now this one I like. If you don't have a zoom lens just make your feet the zoom.

Purple Gladiolas

This one is nice too.

Purple Gladiola

Remember the old Wrigley Gum commercials when you get and and shoot. "Get a little closer, don't be shy." Your pictures will look better and you will get lots more oohs and ahhhhs.

*All pictures shot with my Canon XSI in manual using my Tamaron 28-75mm lens no flash ISO 400 mid morning in the shade. Head over to my flickr account for full EXIF*

Textures, watermarks and rounded corners

Tonight I decided to play around with a picture of one of my DD's using Coffee Shop's free tutorials (which BTW are wonderful).

First I added a texture using this tutorial ~ http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/2008/11/coffeeshop-texture-tutorial.html

I even found the free textures on her site. I used one of the Barnyard Textures on this photo.

Then I rounded the corners using this tutorial ~ http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/2008/08/coffeeshop-rounded-corners-free.html

Lastly I made the watermark using this tutorial ~ http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/2009/09/coffeeshop-editing-101-making-your-own.html

Now I did know how to do this but I wanted to find out how to make it a brush.

Here is the original photo. (on a side note my kids, when they want to, love the camera)

And the after.

Not bad if I do say so myself. I can see doing this on more pictures. It was time consuming only because it was my first time but with practice it could go fast. I did save it as a png but for some reason it didn't work. there is a way to get it so the corners aren't white. I will play more tomorrow.

Hope you had a great day.

I have been playing around today at wix.com building a flash website for my photography. It's not bad for free, but I think I will stick to showcasing my work here. It's easier to upload and I like the format. Here is the site I built today if you are interested in checking it out for yourself.
